Windstorm top LPBL standings at midway point
Reaching the midway point of the Liberation Professional Baseball League regular season all four teams have proven competitive. With just a 36-game schedule each club is learning how to play and win together to position themselves for the playoffs.
Despite (or possible because) being the last of the four teams to form the Indy Windstorm (12-5) have quickly ascended to the top of the standings. Their team offense is posting 6.9 runs per game while holding opponents to 4.2 per game.
Leading that offense has been Tyler Schmidt who is batting .338 with a team-best 27 hits and 16 RBI. The 24-year old left handed pitcher/outfielder has made an impression for teams scouting for talent next summer. On the mound Schmidt has a 4.70 ERA in 7.2 innings.
Other standouts at the plate for the Windstorm include Chris Caffrey (.360 avg; 13 RBI), Johnathon Bigley (.319 avg, 23 hits, 10 RBI) and Lance Myers (.368 avg, 10 RBI).
The team pitching rotation includes Cody Strayer (1.66 ERA, 22.1 IP), Sam Wells (1.88 ERA, 24 IP), Derrick Sylue (3.93 ERA, 23 IP) and Jake Waters (4.26 ERA, 19 IP).
Jonathan Fleckenstein has been lights-out from the bullpen yet to give up a run in 16 innings while Nick Ray sports a 2.00 ERA in nine innings pitched.
Holding a 2.5 game advantage on California Dogecoin (12-8) and the Baseball Resume Bandits (9-10) just four games back should make for an interesting second half of the inaugural LPBL season.
